Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked is a 2011 American adventure comedy film. The film stars Jason Lee, David Cross, Andy Buckley, and Jenny Slate. It was distributed by 20th Century Fox, and produced by Regency Enterprises and Bagdasarian Productions. The film is a sequel to the 2007 "Chipmunks" film and its 2009 "Squeakquel", and was released on December 16, 2011.[1]
Plot
The Chipmunks and The Chipettes (three female counterparts to the Chipmunks) go on a cruise trip with the Chipmunks' owner/manager/father figure, Dave Seville (Jason Lee). During the cruise, the 'Munks and 'Ettes turn the ship into their personal playground, causing trouble and running amuck as they will. Eventually, their chaotic behavior gets them ship wrecked on a desert island, everyone getting lost in the process. As Dave sets out to look for the lost chipmunk trios, the six find a new castaway named Zoe (Jenny Slate) on the island who turns out to be more than a match for the trios.

On October 26, 2010, according to 24 Frames from the Los Angeles Times, Mike Mitchell, the director behind Shrek Forever After, was in negotiations with Fox to direct the new film. It is expected to involve the Chipmunks and the Chipettes getting shipwrecked.[7]

The film received underwhelmingly negative reviews from film critics. It currently holds a 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 67 reviews with the consensus stating: "Lazy, rote, and grating, Chipwrecked is lowest-common-denominator family entertainment that's strictly for the very, very, very young at heart."[8] Actor David Cross has spoken critically of the film, calling it "the most unpleasant experience I've ever had [during production]."[9]
